Columns for one of the bridges along the new four-lane Route 219 have an unusual feature — they look like stone.

“This is in the Swamp Creek Valley Historic District,” said Thomas Helsel, project construction manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. “There’s an old farmhouse nearby, the Jenkins farm. We are trying to match the stone on the columns of the bridge with that house. The columns aren’t actually stone, they are made to look like stone and will be stained.”
