Maryland officials plan to move forward to build their portion of Route 219 from Interstate 68 to the Pennsylvania border. The two states are partners in the planning process of the four-lane highway.

Officials, including those from Somerset County, attended a meeting Friday of the North/South Appalachian Highway Coalition of the Greater Cumberland Committee. They met in Meyersdale Borough to voice concern about what they call Pennsylvania’s lack of commitment to fund its segment of the route. There are 5 1/2 miles of road needed to connect the two highways, which supporters said would be a transportation and economic boon for the region.
