Complete 219 south, then focus on north

I’m glad to see that U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster has taken a strong interest in the completion of Route 219 in Somerset County.

The completion of the Somerset County section can serve as a building block in getting Route 219 completed north at least to Interstate 80.

As a professional truck driver, I often take Route 219 to Buffalo and cross the border into Ontario to deliver glass products to customers in the greater Toronto area.  Toronto is a huge market not only for raw materials, but for completed goods.

The completion of I-99/Route 220 between I-80 and I-76 no doubt has not only benefited Shuster’s congressional district, but has opened a transportation corridor for markets in western Ontario and eastern Quebec provinces.

I hope Shuster can push for the completion of Route 219 as hard as he and his father pushed for the completion of Route 220.

I’ve never understood why, when they started building a four-lane Route 219, they wouldn’t have finished what they started.
