Jobs and Economic Development
Completion of Continental 1 will mean jobs. Economic estimates project completion of the Springville to Salamanca segment could result in 7,000 direct jobs and 2,450 induced jobs from development projects and resulting economic expansion.
Continental 1’s 2009 study, The Regional Economic Impact of Continental 1, indicated that there are significant employment and regional effects with the proposed highway expansion. Further, the benefit-cost analysis indicated that there are significant positive externalities from Continental 1’s expansion.
In Canada, many agencies and businesses will be able to take advantage of the proposed highway, and their responses to new travel demand will add to international trade and traffic flow. Similarly, the study suggests that various businesses and communities that lie within 50-mile radius of the corridor will see business and jobs growth and overall economic vitality.
